George Charles Mabry “Chuck” of Fort Collins, born on April 13, 1941, passed away on July 8th, 2024 at the age of 83. He was a beloved husband, father, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of family and community impact.
Early Life and Career:
Chuck was born in Washington, Iowa to Doran Charles Mabry and Virginia Francis (French) Mabry. Farm life across the midwest (including a brief stint on an Arizona farm) dominated his early life. After graduating from Illinois State University, he made his way to Colorado, ultimately settling in Fort Collins where he made a dramatic impact on multiple local businesses, city and county government, and Colorado State University. In no small part the people of Fort Collins can thank Chuck for the wonderful city they enjoy today.
Family and Relationships:
Chuck married Adele in 1961, and together they had 2 children, Michael and Jennifer. After Adele passed, Chuck met and married Marcia who also had two children - Amy and Jim. Their family further grew to include their kid’s spouses Linda, Raymond, and Leslie and 5 grandchildren Chuck adored: Jennifer, Jeremy, Jacob, Sam, and Bethany. Chuck was also blessed with 3 great grandchildren: Jack, Adele, and Luca.
Community Involvement:
Chuck will forever be a part of Fort Collins history. He was instrumental in guiding Fort Collins and CSU growth as well as was active in many clubs in the city.
Passions and Interests:
Chuck and Marcia both had a passion for travel and together they explored the world traveling to 5 continents and visiting many from a bicycle seat! Chuck stayed active and enjoyed fishing (his true passion), golf, racquetball, pickleball (recently), skiing, and biking. Chuck and Marcia also adopted a second community in Steamboat Springs and they and the family enjoyed many memories in that wonderful place.
Final Thoughts:
Chuck will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy lives on through the memories shared by family and friends.
A celebration of Chuck’s life will be held on Sunday, September 22nd at Windsong Estate Event Center, 2901 Saddler Blvd, Severance, CO 80524, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
