Eric William Haney, 48, passed away on April 27, 2019. He was born in Denver, Colorado July 24, 1970, to Thomas and Christine Haney. He grew up in Aurora, Colorado and graduated from Overland High School in 1988. Eric attended Colorado State University after high school.
Eric worked for his family’s trucking company, Colorado Denver Delivery, based out of Denver, during high school and after college. He met Melissa Sawyer in 1999 while she was working in dispatch with him at Colorado Denver Delivery. They married on June 8, 2001 in Loveland. In 2001 Eric started his own company, CDL College in Commerce City out of a small shed. He grew his company into a large, respected business that trained people from all over the world to work successfully in the transportation industry. Eric also owned Gary’s Job Board and Safety as a Service.
Eric believed in hard work and family. Eric and Melissa moved to Loveland in 2001 and started their family. Eric and Melissa have 3 children, Ethan, 17, Grace, 16, and Sophia, 11. Eric loved music, especially Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan. He participated in BMX racing as a child and he was on the very first Spartan’s Lacrosse team at the age of 9, continuing to play Lacrosse throughout his life. Eric loved to be in the backyard, playing with his Lacrosse stick and his kids. He attended and supported his children’s many extracurricular activities and schooling. Family was especially important to Eric and he worked hard to be sure Melissa could be a stay-at-home mother and his children could participate in activities they loved.
Eric is survived by his wife; Melissa; his children, Ethan, Grace, and Sophia; his father, Thomas Haney; brothers, Aaron (Becky) Haney and Geoff (Maya) Butterfield; his nieces and nephews, Patrick Haney, Dylan Haney, Satchel and Will Friedman, and Carson and Reed Butterfirld; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; mother in law, Elizabeth Vap; and a large extended family of in laws.
He was preceded in death by his mother Christine Haney and his grandparents Leonard and Helena Haney, and Verne and Wanda Trauntvein.
