Edwin Michael "Eddie" Schneider, aged 97, peacefully passed away on July 23, 2024, in Fort Collins, CO surrounded by family. He was born on June 11, 1927, in Elrosa, MN. Eddie was a beloved figure known for his engaging storytelling and his unwavering support for the Colorado Rockies.
Eddie proudly served in the Navy during the tumultuous times of 1944 - 1945. His professional life was rooted in Windom, MN, where he owned the Brass Rail, operated his own insurance agency, and served as a rural mail carrier. Upon retirement, he and his wife, JoAnn, relocated to Fort Collins to be closer to family.
Eddie was a devout member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom, MN, where he was a Knight of Columbus. Later, he joined Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Church in Fort Collins. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, as was his love of singing and playing the button accordion.
He leaves behind his wife of 72 years, JoAnn (Felling) Schneider; his son, Peter; daughter-in-law, Monica (Burns) Schneider; and many nieces and nephews. Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Christina (Retterath), and siblings, Caroline Deters, Marcella Walz, Adeline Schwab, Arletta Turner, Jeanette Holman, and Raymond Schneider.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 9th at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 5450 Lemay Ave, Fort Collins, Colorado. The Rosary will be said at 10 am, followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:30 am, with a reception afterward in the church hall. A military service will be held on Monday, August 12th at 2pm at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO.
In remembrance of Eddie’s generous spirit, contributions may be made to K9sforWarriors.org, an organization that pairs veterans with rescue dogs to help them cope with mental health challenges stemming from military service.
Eddie's legacy of kindness, church involvement, and storytelling will live on through all who knew him.
