Edward Voelkel died September 20, 2022 at age 88. He spent the entire morning doing his favorite activity, playing his tuba in three consecutive band rehearsals. He then went home, fell asleep in his favorite chair, and didn’t wake up. He passed exactly how he had always told us he would want to.
Dad was born, the youngest of 4 children, in Carlstadt, NJ to John Gustave Voelkel and Alice Hall Voelkel. He was raised in New Jersey and later in Miami, FL where he met Suzanne Sienkiewicz, whom he married in 1958. They had three children: Edward, Elizabeth and Robert.
Although he never completed a degree past high school, his career included banking and programming room-sized computers for the IRS and the Air Force.
Ed was preceded in death by Sue (his wife of 57 years), son Eddie, and siblings Betty and Gus. He is survived by his daughter Beth Molenaar (Greg), son Bob, sister Rachel McBride, and his only grandchild Kate Molenaar (Tim Hunt).
Dad maintained his infectious joy and humor until his last day with us. Pride in his family, making people laugh, playing his tuba, and singing barbershop were his passions.
A Party for Ed will be held on October 30, 2022 at 2:30 pm at the Fort Collins Senior Center in the Prairie Sage Room; 1200 Raintree Drive Fort Collins, Colorado 80526.
