Douglas Bruce Small, 70, of Fort Collins died March 11, 2011 at Poudre Valley Hospital. He was born on June 6, 1940 to James Monroe and Lula Mae (Smith) Small in Borger, Texas. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Army and retired after 22 years in 1980. He was a decorated Vietnam Veteran and received 2 bronze stars. In July 1959, he married Barbara Engle in Roswell, NM, with whom he celebrated 51 years of marriage. Doug graduated from Eastern New Mexico University in 1988 with a BA in Business and Accounting. After retiring, he sold insurance throughout Northern Colorado. He was a hard worker and provider for his family. He loved his grandchildren and his dogs, Minnie and Sophie. He is very loved and missed by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Lauri (Dave) Duty, Edward (Lore) Small, and Jane (John) Roark; grandchildren, Austin, Afton, Jessica, John Douglas, and Brianna; and great-grandchildren, Reagan, Lylah Kathleen, Kyle, and Jared. Memorial Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 1, 2011 at Resthaven Funeral Home. Inurnment Resthaven Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Rocky Mountain Children's Home or to the Larimer County Humane Society in care of Resthaven Funeral Home, 8426 S Hwy 287, Fort Collins, CO 80525.
