Donald (Don) Hill of Fort Collins passed away April 18, 2021. He was born January 15, 1936 in Denver and grew up in Grand Junction. He graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1954. After high school, he served 6 years in the United States Air Force. Upon his honorable discharge, the family moved to Grand Junction where he earned an Associates degree in Engineering at Mesa Junior College. He continued his studies at Colorado State University, where he then started his career as an Electronic Research Specialist. Don enjoyed working for the University from 1963 until his retirement in 1994. While at the University, Don learned to fly, earning advanced ratings and ultimately becoming one of the university’s pilots.
Don married the love of his life, Marjorie Denison, in February 1956. They started their married life in Germany, where Don was serving in the Air Force. Son Ray was born at Bitburg Air Base in 1957. Son Mark came along at Kirtland Air Force base in New Mexico. The family moved to Fort Collins in 1962 and Don and Marjorie made it their lifelong home.
Don and Marjorie shared 65 loving years of marriage. Don took great pride in his family. He enjoyed watching the boys in their sports and music activities. Once grandchildren came into the picture, he and Marjorie also made as many of their events as possible.
Don loved flying and served in the Civil Air Patrol for several years. His many interests included golf, his ’55 T-Bird and his ’75 Porsche, traveling, attending Broncos and Rockies games, the “Harem”, Vienna milkshakes and all things lemon. He and Marjorie attended First Christian Church for many years and both enjoyed playing in the handbell choir.
Don is survived by his wife Marjorie, son Ray (Julie) Hill, daughter-in-law DeAnna Hill, grandchildren Chris, Nick (Kacee), Leah (Josh), Eric and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lorraine Hill, brother Doug Hill and son Mark Hill.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, April 30, 2021 at the Allnutt Drake Chapel, 650 W. Drake Road, Fort Collins, CO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to your local Food Bank.
