November 17, 1937 – February 7, 2021
Carolyn Joyce Hottle-Alexander, 83, was born on November 18, 1937, to Margaret
Hottle – Von Kaenel and John Hottle in Ault, Colorado. Joyce is the older sister of Kaye
Hottle-Jordan, 79 and Jerry Hottle, who predeceased her in 1940. She is survived by her stepbrothers Jerry and Ronald Von Kaenel, two children, Kim Peregoy and Kent Alexander, eight grandchildren, nine Great-Grandchildren, and three Great-GreatGrandchildren. She joins her son James “Jimmy” Sahr in heaven, who passed away years before.
Carolyn grew up in Northern Colorado. She learned how to play piano from her grandma Hottle and has enjoyed entertaining others her entire life. As a child, she took care of her family including siblings, even lying about her age to gain employment until she was found out at the age of 13. Carolyn was an avid learner and loved to share her knowledge. She graduated from the “Old” Fort Collins High School in 1961. Upon graduating, she moved to California and earned her nursing degree a few years later. After her love for the children in the (youth) ward, she decided teaching was her calling. She chose a different path, getting her Master’s Degree in education. Carolyn was a leader, an educator and a believer in her students!
After retiring, she moved back to Colorado to be closer to her grandkids. She was as her Facebook post says, “Child Caregiver at Happily Retired”, as she lived every day to be there for her family.
Carolyn, aka “Grandma Chicken”, took a big role in raising her grandchildren and used every minute to pass on her love of learning, loving and working hard to them.
Carolyn was a strong woman who worked hard to reach her goals and encourage others to do so as well. She was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, was politically involved, artistic and crafty. Carolyn was deeply loved and a great source of strength for those around her.
To say that her passing left all around her lost and shocked would be an understatement.
Carolyn’s love and passion will continue through everyone she touched. Carolyn passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 7, 2021.
