Carl Robert Maxey passed away on October 22, 2021, at the age of 61. Carl was born March 3, 1960, in Greeley Colorado to loving parents Loren Robert and Katharine Lucille Maxey. Carl was named after his Grandfathers Carl Williams Henry and Robert Walter Maxey. Carl was a proud lifelong Fort Collins resident.
Carl was married to Marla Joy Van Cleave on May 8, 1993, at the First Presbyterian Church. The couple have two children, Clayton Robert Maxey, and Caleb Dale Maxey. Clayton and his bride Corey (Blaylock) gave Carl his first grandson, Grayson Robert Maxey in July of this year.
Carl was preceded in death by his mother Katharine Lucille Maxey, his paternal grandparents Robert W. and Edna Ruth Maxey, his maternal grandparents Charles (Carl) W. and Lucille Eleanor Henry and his son Brandon.
Carl has two sisters Barbara Ann Maxey of Arvada, CO and Anita Ruth (Aaron) Harrington of Westminster, CO. He will be missed greatly by his many nieces and nephews, Stone, Slade and Samantha (Streeter), Reed, Macklin and Ginger (Harrington), and Sydni, Brody and Grace (Van Cleave). His many Maxey and Henry family cousins, his loving Uncles George, Richard (Marsha) and Roger (Daisey) Maxey, his stepmother June Donaldson (Loren), and the entire Van Cleave and Irvin families were appreciated and steadfast souls in his final journey.
Carl graduated from Poudre High School in 1978 and awarded his degree in Agricultural Business and Management from Colorado State University in 1990. He was proud to attend his mother’s alma mater and be a lifelong Ram fan.
Carl was a successful Fort Collins businessman in the trailer, manufacturing, sales, trucking, and farming industries. Early in his career, Carl rose to the helm and became a partner in Maxey Companies with his parents Loren and Kathy. In 2014 Carl joined his company and the Colorado locations with MGS, Inc. from Denver, PA. Carl was a Partner, Vice President and Regional General Manager for MGS, Inc. until his passing. Carl and his wife Marla also operate Maxey Land and Livestock.
Carl was a constant and faithful follower of Christ and a member of The First Presbyterian Church. Carl placed his earthly struggles in the Hands of God, as he would have us all do as we grieve our loss of such an amazing gentleman. He leaves us as an active leader in numerous church, charitable, civic, industry, community, collegiate and recreational boards and groups.
Carl loved spending every minute possible with his devoted wife Marla at their North Fort Collins Acreage. He enjoyed family time on the golf course with his sons, and the slowing down moments to learn details about Clayton and Caleb’s successful engineering careers. His most recent joy was holding his new grandson Grayson. Carl will be tipping his cowboy hat with his huge smile and be with you in the saddle, swinging a club, singing a country song, hitching a trailer, irrigating a field, clearing for takeoff, enjoying the powder to ski or snowmobile, and cheering on the Rams. His favorite reply to “How are you?” was always, “I am Blessed!” Yes, Carl you are, and we are Blessed for knowing and loving you.
