Margaret Long Touchton passed away peacefully December 10, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.
Margaret was born in West Bristol, PA on May 19, 1943.
Her life was dedicated to the service of the Lord in everything she did. She was a nurse for two years before going into the service of the Salvation Army for 16 years. While in the Army she aided the survivors of Hurricane Fifi in Honduras using her nursing and delegating skills. During the flood in Virginia November of 1985, just weeks after the death of her son Billy, she aided in the relief of families in need.
She retired from the Salvation Army and went on to earn her masters in counseling. She worked at Florida Metropolitan University as an Admissions Counselor for 15 years. Always taking in students into her home to guide and house them.
Upon retiring from her career as a college admissions counselor, she continued to volunteer for the Salvation Army. Her true love was working with the children’s ministry and ringing the bells at Christmas time. Margaret loved sharing her faith in Jesus to everyone she met.
She had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel the world with her soul mate Bill Touchton.
Margaret is survived by her husband William in Strasburg, VA, daughter Margie Weaver and husband Paul Weaver, two granddaughters Sherry Johnson and Autumn Haislop, and five great grandsons of Front Royal, VA. She is also survived by one sister and three brothers; Violet Brown, Norman Long, Gary Long, and Stephen Long.
Margaret was preceded in death by her son Billy Touchton, parents Norman and Violet K. Long; her brothers, Charles Long, David Long, William Long, John Long, and Kenneth Long.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your local Salvation Army.
The memorial service will be held at Westview Cemetery Chapel 1680 Westview Dr., SW Atlanta, GA 30310 at 11:00 a.m. on December 16th.
