Sandra, better known as Sandy, was born in Ogden, Utah, June 30, 1938 to Clyde and Netta Morrison. She was the oldest of nine siblings. As a young child the family moved to Vallejo, California. Being the oldest of nine she helped her mother to care for the little ones. She loved them all as if they were hers.
Through the years Sandy won many West Coast swing dance competitions; the last one in her early 70’s. Her love for dancing was never ending. If she found a song that had a good beat, she was moving. At one point was even asked to dance in a ball at a disco, but said, “No thank you!” It’s not surprising that Sandy met Tony, her future husband, at a dance competition. He always said she was a better dancer than him. Along with her love for dancing Sandra also loved singing. In fact, Sandy sang with Sly & The Family Stones before they became famous.
In her late 50’s Sandy was introduced to a new church, Cathedral of Faith in San Jose, California; one she would call home. Sandy was the most giving person anyone would meet. Her favorite saying is, “You can’t out give God!” She had a deep love for people; especially children. From the moment she found out the churched served the needy through Reaching Out she was volunteering.
Through this ministry Sandy would go on to pray for thousands of people as they come through for their food. Upon seeing the children waiting with their parents she started bringing small candies to share with them. She was known by the children as the Candy Lady. When she passed them out, she would bend down and tell them, “Jesus loves you very much!”
In May of 2018 Sandy traded her candy bags for a new found love of Cows and beautiful clouds in Texas. Even though her time in Texas was short the people treated her with the utmost kindness.
Sandy is survived by her brothers Larry and Richard; sisters Judy, Linda and Patty; her two children Joe (Dena) Franco, Wendy Woodward and her eight grandchildren, Davin, Ashlynn, Courtney, Anthony, Antonio, Jonathan, Jacob and Isabelle.
