Rob was born on January 19, 1969 in Kingsport, Tennessee. He graduated from Castlewood High School, attended Carson Newman College on a wrestling scholarship, and later earned a bachelor’s degree from Excelsior College. He also completed years of military education and training classes.
Rob served 22 years in the United States Army, and he completed two deployments to Iraq, 2003 and 2007-2009. Rob received the Iraq Campaign Medal with Two Campaign Stars, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. After retiring from the military in 2013, Rob became the Vice President of Best Practices for DuraServ Corporate.
Rob was married to Polly Cauble on December 22, 1990. They were married 32 years and had 3 children. They had one daughter, Mary, and two sons, Robby and Matthew.
Rob loved playing golf, reading books, and watching the Dallas Cowboys play football. He loved his family, and he loved God. He was very outgoing, and he never met a stranger.
Rob is survived by his beloved wife, Polly Sluss; daughter Mary Sluss; son Robert Sluss and wife, Emily Sluss; son Matthew Sluss; mother Deborah Sluss; sister Maria Sayler and husband, Richie Sayler; niece Cassie Sayler; brother Shane Sluss and wife, Angie Sluss; niece Brittany Davidson and husband, Eric Davidson; great nephews Cameron Davidson, Tucker Davidson, Bennett Davidson; nephew Tyler Sluss; great niece Willow Sluss, Aunt Pam Busler; cousin Bobby Busler; great cousin Will Busler; Aunt Beverly Brodie; cousin Alex Brodie; Aunt Joyce Poole and husband, Mike Poole; cousin Andrew Poole and wife, Martine Beaulieu; Aunt Cheryl King; cousin Rachel and Will. He is preceded in death by his father, Ralph Sluss; grandfather Vernon Sluss; grandmother Frances Sluss, grandfather Bob Salyer; and grandmother Mary Salyer.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Rhea’s Mill Baptist Church at 5733 N Custer Rd McKinney, Texas. Following the service, a Military Funeral Honors Ceremony will take place at 1:00 p.m. at the Dallas Fort Worth Veterans Cemetery at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway Dallas, Texas. Afterwards, A Celebration of Life will take place at 6:00 p.m. at City Works Restaurant, 3680 The Star Blvd #1300 Frisco, Texas.
