Max grew up in Midland, TX and attended Lee High School. After graduating high school in 1973, he attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1978. After college Max had a 40 year career with Chevron. During the last 10 years with Chevron, he worked abroad in Kazakhstan, Indonesia, and Angola. Max was fortunate to have a job he truly loved; he never met a stranger, and he, was lucky enough to have dear friends all over the world. He had a fondness for languages, and in addition to English, he spoke Russian, Bahasa Indonesia and Portuguese.
Max had a variety of interests: he was a bee keeper and loved making his honey. He, also, had a taste for hot and spicy foods; he enjoyed photography, fishing and the outdoors. He loved gardening and even became a Collin County Master Gardner where he was awarded Intern of the Year in 2020. Max was a loyal “Parrot Head”. He lived every year for traveling to Paris, France for the annual Jimmy Buffett concert. Others loved his witty sense of humor and knowing he never met a stranger – no matter what part of the world. With his generous nature, he encouraged others to excel and mentored them to grow to their fullest potential. Max’s door was open to anybody. He enjoyed sharing his stories and jokes crafted from his many years of adventures. He loved his dogs, especially Queenie and loved relaxing with his Shiner, Miller Lite, or Coors Lite. Most especially, he loved traveling the world with his soulmate, his wife, his best friend, Jana.
He will always be remembered as a loving father and husband. Max was proudest of his family; he was very active with his son, Brian. He was a scout master in the Boy Scouts for many years and participated in, not only the boy scouts, but in the marching band, camping, and other activities with youth. He loved entertaining, and Max and Jana could construct a party in a moments’ notice – and always included everybody.
As Jesus Christ was his Lord and Savior, Max lived his life with integrity, dignity, and honor.
Max’s wish was to celebrate his life and not mourn his death.
Max is preceded in death by both his parents, Reo and Mary Ragan.
He is survived by, his wife and soulmate of 50 years, Jana Ragan and his son, Brian Ragan.
