Born July 18, 1929 in Borger, Texas to George Samuel King and Lola Josephine Swearengin, M.A. attended Capitol Hill High School. She later met John Kerwin (J.K.) Hannifan during a game of horseshoes and were married on November 11, 1950, until his passing in 1985.
M.A. married Neil R. Osgood in 1989 and lived in CA, AZ, and NM before settling in Plano to be close to family.
Way before her time in having a strict vitamin regimen which helped her stay physically and mentally young, she enjoyed playing tennis and gardening. She was very competitive in board games and was not to be interrupted during a TV broadcast of Jeopardy or radio broadcast of The Rest of the Story by Paul Harvey. She could also go word-for-word, note-for-note with Carol King and John Denver, as she audibly demonstrated at a John Denver concert in 1980. Later in life she was fond of trips to the beach and walks at the Dallas Arboretum.
M.A. was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Frances (King) Harper and Bette (King) Lyon, her husband J.K., as well as her nephew Dennis Kizer and niece Angela Minton.
She is survived by her husband Neil, daughter Brooke (Hannifan) Allen and husband David, son Mark Hannifan and wife Pamela, and daughter Kelly (Hannifan) Kessler and husband Michael. M.A. had seven grandchildren - Whitney Allen, Taylor Allen, Meghan Almond, Grayson Almond, Abby Hannifan, Jack Hannifan, and Austin Hannifan – and three great grandchildren, Noah Hannifan, Harper Hannifan, and Max Hannifan. M.A. was also very close to her nephew William (Bill) Kizer and niece Missy (Harper) Hoehn and husband Bill, all Oklahoma City residents.
The family will have a private celebration of M.A.’s life.
The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers at Wyndham Court Assisted Living & Memory Care in Plano, Texas for their excellent care of M.A. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Sun Partners International (www.sunpartners.org).
