Lora Lee Cox

Mrs. Lora Lee Cox slipped peacefully into heavenly rest on January 6, 2018 in McKinney, TX. She was born on March 8, 1933 in Emory (Rains County), TX to Mr. Olen and Mrs. Lillie (née Hebison) Melton. Lora was the youngest of her siblings (1 brother and two sisters, all deceased). Lora was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Cox on March 10, 2010, their stillborn daughter Joanna Cox, two sisters and a brother, 1 sister-in-law, and 2 brothers in law, several other relatives and numerous friends. Lora was also preceded in death by her dog Dixie just before Lora went into the hospital a few months ago.

Lora was the baby of the family and treated as such! Her big brother doted on her, and her two sisters were very exasperated by her antics. She knew there was trouble when Mama called her “Lora Lee”.

Lora was born and raised in a small farming community near Emory, TX. Lora graduated Emory High School in 1951 where her parents had also taught, and married Joseph Lee Cox on June 5, 1955 at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church also in Emory.

Lora’s first priority was God and family. Lora was the ideal role model for sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Lora’s emphasis in life was everything for the family. She loved her family and church and served there throughout her life. Her service to the Lord started in Emory, TX, then on to Fort Worth, the Hurst-Euless area, College Station, Dalhart, and Allen. Lora did not talk a lot about herself or her troubles. Rather, she was kind, gentle, and yet strong and direct. She was a courageous woman of faith in the Lord. She was famous for her food, especially her egg salad, brownies, and chocolate cake.

Lora could always be counted on to go visit the sick church members, and for many years she was visiting members that were easily 20 years younger. She faithfully served in various ministries and would routinely go visit, pray with, serve meals, etc. for friends, family, and church members. Lora taught adult Bible studies, worked in children church and Vacation Bible School at her church and her grandchildren’s church for many years.

Lora had a leadership role in the Bible Discussion Group and was credited by the ladies of that group for bringing in many members. She was known as a prayer warrior, group planner, always having the right gift to give, and the right Bible verse to share for many different situations. There have been claims made that she carried a Baptist casserole in her trunk for any situation that would surely arise. Lora’s voice was known to change when she talked to God. She would speak to God in a quieter, calmer tone as if talking with her earthly father. She was always the first to arrive to the Bible Discussion Group, and the last to leave as she stayed to clean up. Lora served right up to the end.

Lora and her husband Joe moved to Allen, TX in 2001 when their second granddaughter was coming. Lora played a huge role with PaPa’s hand crafted tree houses, doll houses, lawn décor, VBS décor, and baby doll cradles. Lora made the doll clothes to match the doll cradles. She also made blankets and many other things for her girls. Lora and Joe were known as GranGran and PaPa to countless friends of their granddaughters. They were all loved, accepted, and welcomed by GranGran and PaPa. Lora also ran the family’s trophy business and picture framing business in addition to running the family. Lora loved nature and animals; she would take long walks with her pets. She would stop and take in the smells and touch the leaves and plants along the way. One of her favorite things was to find something in nature, and bring it to her family saying, “Do you know what this is? She also enjoyed gardening and “messing with animals”. Fortunately she always came away unscathed.

Left to forever cherish the wonderful memories and legacy of Lora are her son, Russell Lynn Cox and partner, Joseph Nilo of Dallas, TX; daughter, Holley Lynn Breeding and husband, Russell Breeding of Frisco, TX, as well as two grandchildren; Madison Breeding and Andria Breeding of Frisco, TX.

Family visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Stonebriar Funeral Home in Frisco. Memorial service will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday January 11, 2018 at Stonebriar Funeral Home. Honorary Pall Bearers will be the Ladies of the Bible Discussion Group.
