Judy Cox, or Grandma Cox as I called her, was truly one of a kind. It’s fitting that she worked for Disney when I was young, as she always exuded joy reminiscent of Winnie the Pooh, a favorite of both of ours. This joy for life, humor, and kindness lives on in her children, who wear those traits as well as she did – a sign of her loving parenting. I’ll never forget childhood visits to the Old Market, Kansas City, and Virginia Beach, nor the occasions on which she would watch us kids while our folks were away. Always times spent making the most out of our time together, creating memories which I am proud to hold dear to this day. The impact my Grandma Cox had on me and on our family is profound and undeniable, and we are all better for having had her in our lives. I will miss and love you forever, Grandma.

I remember when we used to come visit you in Virginia Beach. The house was always filled with your bears and the beach was our favorite place. 

We would go there together and walk along the waterline and look for dolphins. You made me love the ocean and taught me that the simplest of things are the most beautiful. 

This, I will always cherish and remember.

Mummy - I was just thinking about all of our marathons:  The annual Christmas cookie baking,  the Thanksgiving cooking, the 6am day-after-Thanksgiving 4 hour shopping trips  (including lunch, of course).  You helped me learn how to sew.  You listened to all the drama I knew I could talk to you about.   

I loved the trips to Kansas City when I just needed a week alone with my parents.  

The time we were walking through Westroads and I saw a bunny in the window that you said I could bring home...

When Fr. Gittens told the whole 8th grade class that we look and talk like close friends sitting in the church pew. 

There are many moments to remember.  I will hold you close in my heart forever.

Judy, I remember that not long after we moved to Italy, John, Jodi, and the rest of their family came to visit us in Naples.  We took a day trip to the Vatican for a tour.  As we entered St. Peter’s Basilica through a side door, you immediately saw Michelangelo’s “La Pieta,” the statue of the Virgin Mary holding the crucified Christ.  You leaned against the wall and, with tears in your eyes, just stared.  It was one of the many moments of our life together that I will never forget.

Judy and I went rafting on the Martha Brae river near Falmouth Jamaica. We had a spur of the moment opportunity to fly to Jamaica, and decided to take it.  One of our best decisions ever - and one of the best photos I have of her!

Mother, these words cannot express the feelings I have for you in my heart nor can they describe the gifts you gave to each of us with your kindness and thoughtfulness.  You always placed our needs ahead of yours.  You spent your life trying to make ours better.  Thank you for standing up for me, for taking the time to let me know how much I meant to you, and for helping to smooth over the rough patches one finds themselves in due to youth and inexperience.  Thank you for taking care of me when I had my tonsils out in 4th grade and not getting angry about the exploding egg in our first microwave.  Thank you for getting up in the middle of the night to make my lunch and drive me to the bus stop when I worked in the summer cornfields.   I miss your Thanksgiving dinners and your Christmas cookies.  I miss the liver and onions you made when daddy was out of town.  Mostly, I miss your great smile and the words of encouragement for the days to come.  I love you and miss you and hope to give you a hug again someday. I have many fond memories of time spent around you and grandpa when I was younger. I will always remember how excited you were to see my siblings and I, and how sweet and welcoming you were when we would visit. I will miss you.

Mother, Daddy asked me to write something, and I kept asking myself what for.  I thought of you, and the answer came.  Cat-for, to make a pair of kitten britches.  Thank you for always being there for me.  Like the time when I was coerced into jumping off the roof, ate my knee, and got a fat lip.  I thought I was in soooo much trouble, but you fed me crème de menthe milk shakes for two weeks until I was all better.  Then there was the other time I jumped off the roof again to see if I could do it. I think everyone sees where this is going …. you just gave me more milkshakes.  And, I always knew 100% who your favorite drummer was. I still feel your love all around me.  I miss you dearly, but I also take all of you, and your love with me. Judy, I have wonderful memories of our lives since we met in the sixth grade. One of the most vivid is our first date when we were high school sophomores.  I was wondering whom to ask to an upcoming dance. when I saw you standing at the bottom of the stairs. I mustered the courage and asked you. You smiled and said yes!  I’ll never forget that dance . . . or that smile.

I love you very much and will always cherish the memories we made together throughout my life. I’ll remember the dozens of times we played monopoly and other board games when you visited, my first makeup that you bought me, sharing my love for corgis, your kolache bread, visiting you in VA beach, and the last time I saw you when you met my sweet Finley. For my sweet mother-in-law, my friend. Thank you for welcoming me into your family from day one. I have so many fond memories of going to the apple orchard and getting lunch every year when we lived in Omaha and from all of our other outings and trips to see you. I must have been the middle gal. Being seated alphabetically in school, I’m certain I helped pass notes between Judy and Jack! From the beginning, it was TRUE LOVE...silly as it sounds, they never stopped looking at each other in the same way as when we were in school! 
Dedicated, devoted and DIVINE are my words to describe my two forever friends! 
I am sorry Judy’s physical presence is no longer in our grasp.....I KNOW WE WILL SEE ONE ANOTHER AGAIN!
