Joan (Wojtkiewicz) Kastner, 73, passed away the evening of June 21, 2024, succumbing to breast cancer. Raised in Weyerhaeuser, Wisconsin, she spent the majority of her life in New Brighton, Minnesota, and the surrounding suburbs, near her son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughters. It was not until 2020 that Joan moved south with her husband of nearly 53 years, living in Frisco, Texas, and joining the wonderful Frisco Lakes community near her daughter, son-in-law, and grandsons.
A child to parents of the Great Depression and a Gold Star family following the loss of her brother in Vietnam, Joan was raised with the values of working hard and loving big. As the wife of a railroad worker, Joan was fiercely independent in “holding down the fort” while work demands often took her husband away from home. Before turning to office management type roles at Hart Brothers Floor Covering and Rosedale Mall, Joan was a lunchroom worker at the local St. Anthony Village High School where she became a second mom to many of her kids’ friends. Fresh baked cookies, homemade salsa, and piping hot casseroles were known staples in Joan’s kitchen. Later, these same expressions of love were transferred to her grandkids where Joan would drop everything to selflessly tend to them, even if it meant hopping on a plane and flying halfway across the country.
Joan is survived by her husband, Jim, her brother, Jerome (Sally) Wojtkiewicz, her children, Chad (Penny) Kastner and Kim (Andy) Guedry, many nieces, nephews, and dear friends, and her beloved grandkids, Devin, Quincy, Chase, Cleo, and Edie, to whom she was affectionately known as “JoJo.” She was preceded in death by her father, Walter, mother, Frances, and brother, Jeremy.
Services will be held at Stonebriar Funeral Home (10375 Preston Road) in Frisco, on July 27, 2024, at 11am CT. The Celebration of Life will continue following the service at the Frisco Lakes Northside Amenity Center (7955 Anthem Drive) from 1-4pm CT. If desired, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Joan to the American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org/) or the Susan G. Komen Foundation (https://www.komen.org/) to help find a cure for this vicious disease.
