Born on June 21, 1950, he was the son of Harold F. and Mary Gaynor Nugent. In 1968, Jim graduated from Salamanca High School and was accepted at SUNY Cortland where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics in 1972. Jim's longtime career in the technology field began in Ithaca, New York with the NCR Company. His passion for golf took him to Dallas, Texas, where he could play year round and still continue his career. He worked several years for Texas Instruments, Alcatel, and Alcatel-Lucent from where he retired in 2013 as a software engineer.
On June 29, 1991, he married the former Denise Tickner of Houston and they made their home together in Frisco, Texas, until her death in September 2009.
Jim was a very devoted husband and an accomplished golfer at both Oakridge and Stonebriar Country Clubs. He loved his family and friends, the Cowboys, the Mavericks, and life in Texas.
Jim is survived by two sisters, Kathy Nugent, of Bradford, Pennsylvania, and Molly Nugent, of Charlotte, North Carolina; one brother, John (Judy) Nugent of Webster, New York; three nieces, Holly (Jeff) Thropp, Megan and Kelly Nugent; a nephew, Patrick (Jackie) Lyons; a grand-niece Alna Lyons and the Tickner family of Houston.
