He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Gwendolyn Jones Thomas, and is survived by daughters Tracee Thomas McRight and her husband Mark, Tandee Thomas Lawton and her husband John, granddaughter Brittney McRight Necessary and her husband Seth, grandson Landon Beauchamp and his fiancé Briana, grandson Nicholas McRight, grandson Hunter Lawton and his wife Lauren, granddaughter Gracee Lawton, and great grandchildren Wesley Maricle, Vivian Necessary, and Mason Beauchamp.
Harold graduated from Plainview High School in 1959. He loved West Texas and his favorite cousin Bob Glenn would visit him from California every summer.
After Harold and Gwen married in 1962, they moved to Clovis, New Mexico and purchased the CCCC Cattle Barn. This was the beginning of Harold’s entrepreneurial endeavors. He was a focused businessman, a leader in the community, and was an officer in the New Mexico Cattle Growers Association. Harold and Gwen attended Parkland Baptist Church in Clovis and developed a trusted relationship with his favorite Pastor Dr. Herbert Bergstrom. They also attended Central Baptist Church in Clovis and taught the young married couples’ class with CC and Mary McKinney. The whole McKinney family became close friends and both families are close to this day.
After his father’s accidental death in 1968, Harold sold the Cattle barn and purchased a large cattle ranch and farming operation between Clovis and Portales New Mexico. Gwen worked side by side with Harold and the help of Nicholas Salgado and Marcus Natividad. The ranch became an enormous success. Tracee and Tandee attended school in Portales, New Mexico. God blessed their family with the lifelong friendship of Wyley & Mildred Mauldin. These two families blended God’s principals together with love and joy!
In 1982 Harold and Gwen moved to Midland, Texas to start a construction company. Those years in construction brought tough times, but Harold and Gwen stood by their faith. Unfortunately, in 1994 Gwen was diagnosed with breast cancer. They left Midland and moved to Dallas to begin her cancer treatments.
After moving to Dallas, Harold began a new career as a Catastrophic Insurance Adjuster. He travelled across the nation working storms with Gwen travelling with him. It was a special time for Harold and Gwen as they got the chance to make many new lifelong friends.
As the years passed, Harold’s sense of humor became more apparent. He had a sharp wit, laughed often, and had a retinue of funny phrases.
In his later years, drinking coffee with his friends became his daily routine. He was blessed with some special gentlemen, meeting most mornings to drink coffee, and solving the world’s problems.
His legacy is one of faith, positive attitude, and unshakeable belief in God and his favorite book, the Holy Bible.
God has said “Well done, faithful Servant,” and He will be missed by many here on earth.
A celebration of life funeral service for Harold will be held Sunday, March 27, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Stonebriar Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 10375 Preston Road, Frisco, TX 75033.
