Dimple June Tovery Sanders, 93 years old, passed away on February 13, 2015, in Frisco, Texas. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 7, at 10:30 a.m. at Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport. Dr. Tom Harrison of Broadmoor Baptist Church will be officiating. Mrs. Sanders will be buried next to her husband, Dr. Jason Chase Sanders, who passed away in 2003.
Born on January 18, 1922, in Vernon Parish, Louisiana, Dimple was the fifth and last child of Thomas Jefferson Tovery and Ollie Amanda Mitchell Tovery. With deep roots in Vernon Parish, she descends from the Franklin, Miers, and Mitchell families, pioneers of that parish. While attending Centenary College, she met her husband, Dr. Jason Chase Sanders. Dr. and Mrs. Sanders were married on March 21, 1943, in Shreveport before he shipped out to serve in World War II.
Mrs. Sanders lived most of her life in Shreveport, where she was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church since 1946. She served on many boards with the Shreveport Medical Society, the Louisiana Academy of General Practice, and Tri-State Medical Society during her husband’s medical career. Dimple was also active in PTA and the Shreve Island Garden Club. In 2010, Mrs. Sanders moved to Frisco, Texas, to be near family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and siblings, Sybil Tovery Addison Parker, Otis Clyde Tovery, Thomas Joy Tovery and Mary Helen Tovery Poleman. Donald R. Carr, her son-in-law, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her three children, Joan Sanders Carr, Mary Sanders Ashby, and Dr. Thomas Jason Sanders (Terri). Her grandchildren who survive her are Laura Carr Coleman (Chris), Mary Carr Knipp (Terry), Elizabeth Sybil Ashby, Ronald Bryan Ashby, Jr. (Cecile), Jennifer Michelle Sanders, Ashley Sanders Reinertsen (Rhyan), and Jason Chase Sanders, II. She is also survived by great grandchildren, Lauren Knipp, Grant Knipp, Matthew Coleman, Jason Coleman, Reese Reeves, Marc Ashby, and Margot Ashby.
