Carl Dale Kleist

He graduated from Cahokia High School in 1961 and attended St. John’s Lutheran college. Carl was in real estate, sales and direct marketing for the better part of 40 years. He enjoyed collecting antiques, such as antique typewriters, watching baseball and playing golf. Mostly, he loved being with his family. First and foremost, his favorite place was anywhere his wife, children and grandchildren were. Next, he loved the water. Whether it be the ocean or the lake, he was always even more content than normal when he was by the water. He loved going to movies with his wife and grandkids and really liked watching cooking shows. Carl served in the US Army for a two year term when he was drafted. Growing up and in his early parenthood days was always active in the Lutheran church. He was a member of the rotary club. A couple months before he passed, Carl and Joyce took an aerial tour of the Grand Canyon. Carl was determined to go ziplining on that trip and he did!

Carl and Joyce’s marriage of over 40 years began in 1975 when they met in St. Louis. They had three children and five grandchildren. Whether it was with friends or family, he always loved to goof around and tell jokes. His family struggled to remember even a handful of times he was ever angry. Carl was gentle, caring and unselfish. Through his life and even during an extended battle with cancer his attitude never soured. He would simply try to make those around him comfortable in a way only he could, usually with his favorite saying, “It’s all good.”

Carl is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Winifred Kleist. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughter Tammi and her husband Joe of Orlando, FL; son Jeff and his wife Amanda of St. Louis, MO; son Mike and his wife Missy of Frisco, TX; grandchild Desiree of Chicago, IL; grandchild Haley of Frisco, TX; grandchild Bode of Frisco, TX; grandchild Abigail of St. Louis, MO; grandchild Jayce of St. Louis, MO; sister Cathy; brother Wally.
