Angel Aguilar, 94, of Frisco, Texas, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2024. He was born on August 2, 1929, in Mexico City, Mexico, to the late Jeronimo & Elena (Lora) Aguilar. Angel enjoyed his childhood with his brother and sister and was certainly the mischievous one of the bunch. He spent his free time playing soccer and became quite good at it, playing for many years as he really enjoyed it. Following graduation from high school, Angel was a professional painter and went onto receive certifications from trade school.
In 1953, Angel made his way to the U.S., in search of a better life and to achieve the American dream. When he courageously arrived in New York, Angel continued his trade of painting until he joined the United States Army. Angel proudly served our country for four years and went on to serve in the Army Reserves for several years.
He met the love of his life, Raquel, in December, 1956 on a train after he was discharged from the Army. He quickly fell in love, got married, and started a family, with a woman he would adore for 61 years. Following the birth of their first child, they realized New York was not the place for them and they bravely ventured to the Midwest, eventually settling down in Chicago, where they had four more children to complete their family.
Angel worked as a laborer for a few years before he joined Westinghouse, where he repaired transformers. He later took jobs in Houston with Jackson Pump and then eventually retired as a foreman from Liquid Carbonic (now Praxair) in Chicago. He was a hardworking man throughout his life. Angel’s devotion to his family to provide a wonderful life for them, while making his American dream come true, was unmatched and admired. His drive and confidence allowed him to achieve not only the American dream, but so much more – the things money can’t buy.
Angel was truly the type of person that would give you the shirt off of his back. His generous spirit was stemmed from his love for life and love for the Lord. He was deeply rooted in the Catholic faith and instilled this in his family. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi in Frisco in recent years. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather – and left a lasting imprint on his beloved family and all who encountered him.
Angel and Raquel traveled the world and, during their travels, he fell in love for the Holy Land. His stories about his incredible trip to the Holy Land and the miracle he experienced while he was there will be cherished by his family for years to come. Not only did Angel enjoy international travel but he enjoyed cross-country road trips and even the simple trips across town to enjoy all-day family picnics at the park – also memories that his children will treasure for a lifetime.
Angel was larger than life and he made the most of every situation with his genuine zest for life. He loved dancing and enjoyed celebrating Cinco de Mayo each year with friends and family. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. Angel enjoyed mariachi music, playing tennis, drawing, and riding his bike. He spent time at the Frisco Senior Center in recent years, where he enjoyed new friends and livening up the place with his enormous personality, He was the guy that lit up a room when he entered it and never knew a stranger. He loved making others feel good and making them laugh. Angel’s outgoing and LOUD personality made others feel welcomed and valued. Angel was truly an angel on earth and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
In addition to his parents, Angel was preceded in death by his wife, Raquel Aguilar; sister, Elena Aguilar, brother, Jorge Aguilar, and daughter-in-law, Janine Aguilar.
