William Anthony Barrett was born on October 16, 1939 in Castleisland, County Kerry, Ireland and died on January 26, 2024 in Fresno, California. He joins his parents, Andrew and Sarah, brothers Dennis, Robert, Joe, John and Vince, sister Helen, nephew Robert and niece Sarah with our Lord in Heaven.
After 26 years, he retired as Chief of Federal Probation and Parole for the Eastern District of California. He was a faithful Catholic and a proud Irishman. He was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, golfing buddy, unsolicited advisor and a real friend. He was an avid golfer, reader and thinker who loved to pull off a good surprise, deliver a well-timed “zinger” to make you laugh and enjoy the occasional, smooth Irish whiskey.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary, his three sons Tommy, Tony and Michael, his daughters-in-law Stacy and Julie, and his four grandchildren Cassidy (13), Emily (13), William (13) and Eamon (10) whom he absolutely treasured.
Services will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at 10am at St. Paul Catholic Newman Center, 1572 E Barstow Ave, Fresno CA, immediately followed by a reception in the Cardinal Newman Hall on site. Family is invited to the burial at Academy Cemetery in Clovis after the reception. Remembrances can be sent to Casa Juan Diego in Houston, TX.
