Theodore "Ted" James Karas, at age 64, passed away unexpectedly of a heart condition on Saturday, October 27, 2012, in Fresno, Ca. Ted was born on April 11, 1948 in Fresno, Ca. to Angelo and Doris Karas.
He spent most of his life in Fresno. He graduated from Fresno High School in 1966, where he lettered in golf and went on to play in college, graduating from California State University, Fresno in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography. It should be noted that his love of golf would continue throughout his life and if the sun was shining, Ted could be found on the greens. He played many a game with friends and family including his son and grandsons. There is no doubt they will be seeing him on the greens.
After graduating college, he began his career delivering meat for Pappy's Meat Company and with an entrepreneurial spirit; he opened and operated Diamond Meat Company until the time of his death. Ted immensely enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to visit Greece, his father's homeland. He also took many trips with his wife and companion, Christine Karas. Ultimately, he most enjoyed Southern California and had planned to retire in Palm Springs.
Ted was an avid sports fan and could always be counted on to root for his favorite team, the USC Trojans. True to form, Ted never missed an opportunity to see his grandchildren play sports. He loved spending time with his family and friends and he seized every opportunity to do so. Ted's sense of humor was infectious bringing laughter to any gathering.
Along with his two-legged friends, Ted also had tremendous love and compassion for animals. If there was a stray cat or dog on the street, Ted could be counted on to rescue it, often bringing it into the comfort of his home.
He is preceded in death by his beloved mother and father, Doris and Angelo Karas.
Ted is survived by Christine Karas, his long time love; his son, Blaine and his wife Kathleen; his daughter Melissa Karas Nunes, of Fresno; as well as his sister, Sharon Dimbat of San Luis Obispo. Ted is also survived by his five grandchildren, Blake Karas, Brandt Karas, Morgun Nunes, Brock Karas, and Macee Nunes; and one niece, Kim Dimbat.
