He worked for the Bell System for many years, first at Ohio Bell and retiring from AT&T, in Fresno, in 1994. He spent over 50 years in Boy Scouts first in Ohio, where he did his most fulfilling work with many young people, and finished his service at the Sequoia Council in Fresno. His family and friends knew that Bob truly defined the phrases "once a Marine, always a Marine" and "Semper Fi".
He loved fishing, especially with his "buddy" Ed and introduced the sport to his wife, Sue. They spent many years traveling and "putting a line out" everywhere and he especially loved Northern California where they found their "adopted" family, Michael, Nicole, Zack and Sean. Bob never met a stranger and was a willing listener and helping hand to many.
Bob is survived by his wife Sue (Suzanne) of 44 years; sons, Tom Blizzard and his wife Janice; Ken Coning and his wife Shelle; nephew Robert Nicholson; cousin Carl Staples; four beloved grandchildren, Samantha, Ty, Tommy and "his" Matthew; four greatgrandchildren;
many cousins; and, countless friends.
The family wants to thank Kaiser, and the many doctors and surgeons who assisted Bob over the years, especially Doctors Streat and Inouye; the staff at Optimal Hospice, especially Sonia and Raymond; and many friends for their help and support, especially neighbors Don and Linda.
A Memorial gathering will be held on Friday, June 12, 2015 at Tinkler Funeral Chapel & Crematory from 10:30am to 12:00noon.
