Mr. Linger passed away on August 24th at the Veterans Hospital, after complications from a Heart Attack.
Bob graduated from Edison High in 1950 and married Norma Jean Coelho in 1953. He graduated from Fresno State in 1954 with a degree in Accounting. In that same year, he left home to serve in the United States Army in Korea.
Upon returning home, he was hired as a junior accountant by a local Fresno accounting firm. Two years later he passed the CPA exam and continued working for that same firm through many name changes and 48 years, until his retirement to beautiful Morro Bay in 2004. The firm still bears his name, as "Linger, Peterson, Shrum, & Co". Bob served as President of the CSCPA from1968-69.
He enjoyed Golf very much and was an active member of Sunnyside Country Club for 30 years. While in High School, he was an All-Star at Second Base, an outstanding Tailback for the Football team and a Track Speedster.
Bob always had music in his heart. From being first Trumpet in the Dance Band during his school days, to singing in Church Choirs, and Quartets.
Bob's Accounting mind needed to stay busy in retirement, so his brother Ken got him involved in Fantasy Football. He threw himself into that and loved scoring the whole league with his brother. Bob was a faithful San Francisco Giants, and 49ers fan his whole life, and passed that love of sports on to his son.
Bob was a Man of Strong Christian faith, who was respected and loved by those who knew him for his Integrity, Compassion, Honesty, Patience, Kindness, Humility, Sense of Humor and Love. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Lydia Linger and sister Marilyn, along with many aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his wife Norma Linger, of 60 years, his son Donny Linger, Brother, Kenneth Linger, Brother in Law, Melvin Coelho, and many cousins, nieces, & nephews.
He will also be greatly missed by the family's Dachshund, Daphne.
