Richard Flores Ybarra 80 of Fresno, CA passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 surrounded by his family. Richard was born in Fresno, CA on May 10, 1941 to the parents of Anastasio and Ernestina Ybarra.
Dad began his life of learning at Bowles Elementary; later attending Washington Union High School where he met the love of his life, Dolores. While in high school dad played football and baseball. Dad had such a passion for baseball that him and his brothers had a fast pitch team “Bowles Merchants”, they played in many tournaments and for the City of Fresno League. After his playing time he began coaching his sons and grandsons; which led him to umpiring for many years. Dad touched the lives of many on and off the field.
Dad had such a passion for sports that he passed it on to his grandchildren. Dad never missed a sporting event whether it was soccer, baseball, football, basketball or wrestling – if his grandchild was playing he was there. Dad was a very hard worker, he hauled hay in his early years and later became self-employed. Dad was a caring loving father. Dad suffered from Parkinson’s for many years which gradually slowed him down. It was very hard for his family to watch him decline, but he fought a good fight. His grandson wrote it best. “It doesn’t feel right without you here, but I know you’re happy in heaven with Grandma and I can’t be selfish”
Richard was preceded in death by his wife Dolores of 60 years.
He is survived by his children, Richard Ybarra, Jr., Patricia Ybarra (Jaime Villar), Rachel Y. Ybarra-Brandt and her husband Phil Brandt, Michael M. Ybarra; eight wonderful grandchildren, Matthew V.
