Mr. Herrera was an active member of the American Indian Veteran Association (AIVA), which allowed him to engage and participate in many events throughout the state of California and Texas. He enlisted and departed from Travis Air Force Base to serve his country as a United States Air Force
mechanic during the Vietnam War era, and returned to Fresno in 1967. He retired from Dow Chemical in Fresno, CA, after working for 35 years, and the Madera Irrigation District in Madera, CA, after ten years.

He is survived by his wife, Amelia Herrera; daughter, Patricia Marie Martinez; son, John Robert Herrera; three grandchildren, Bryce Herrera, Reyanna Herrera, and Dionicia Carston; and siblings, Robert, John, Edward, Jennie, Florence and Dionicia.
