Rafael was born in Mercedes, TX, where he attended Mercedes High School. There he played linebacker and running back for the Mercedes Tigers. He loved the game until he hurt his knee during the state championship his senior year. He often spoke of those days in Texas and was able to return for a visit early this year.
Rafael came to California in 1960, with nothing to his name but strong determination. In 1963, he became the owner and operator of Torres Fence Company. Rafael was a pillar in the south east business community. Under his leadership, Torres Fence Co., Inc. has recorded sales in countries throughout the world.
He was a man of success, commitment and pure generosity. Everything he did in life was done with his family in mind. His generosity was grand and immeasurable.
"Daddy, you will be dearly missed. Please know that your children and grandchildren are so very grateful for everything you and Mother did for this entire family."
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Rebecca R. Torres.
Rafael is survived by his sons, Rafael Torres, Jr., and Rene J. Torres; daughter, Maricela Salas; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
