Michael (74) born in Buffalo, New York was a new resident to Madera (previously from Pahrump, Nevada & Brentwood, California) passed away on Saturday. Son of Chester & Jeannette Redman and beloved father to Marni Parsons, Mike died just 5 short weeks after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his daughter Marni Parsons & son in law Mike Parsons (of Madera) and son Michael Redman JR & daughter in law Grace Redman (of San Mateo, California) along with 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
In high school, Mike was a gymnast. He won the New York State Championship in gymnastics and tumbling. After graduating, he served in the Navy on the USS White Plains (AFS 4) as a marine mechanic. Upon returning home, Mike resided in Concord, California and became a PGA professional golfer. He toured the circuit in his early 20’s with big dreams. He was about as cool as they come. Tall, dark, and handsome, athlete, and he could DANCE! With moves like James Brown, he was a hit at the night clubs. At 25, Mike married and became a step-father to 4 children.
He gave up touring when the family moved to Williston, ND where Mike became the golf professional at the local country club. In the early 80’s, Mike changed professions to become an engineer in the oil field. He went from “Golf Pro” to “Mud Man”. He worked in the oil field 40+ years but golf was always his true passion. Mike played golf every chance he could. His closest friends reaped the rewards with tips on their golf swing. In his 50’s Mike learned how to play the saxophone. He was no Kenny G… but he had fun with it and his playing made up for his lack of vocals!
Forever a jokester, he would always have a great joke to share or a funny impression to get people laughing and he did so right up until the end. Mike was a very proud Veteran and Christian man. If you were lucky enough to know Mike, you were lucky enough!
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.whitehurstsullivan.com for the Redman family.
