Our beloved Randy has lost his war with prostate cancer. He endured 10 years of treatment with courage, optimism and determination, never allowing the cancer to define who he was. He passed away on Monday, October 5, 2015, in his home in the embraces of his cherished Sheri, who has been at his side every step of the way in this long battle.
Randy was born on September 16, 1955, at the old St. Agnes Hospital, the first son of Mel and Geneva Mehling. He lived his entire life on or near Chateau-Fresno Ave. in Fresno County, attended county schools and graduated from Central High School in 1973.
Farming was his first love and something he did all of his life. He learned to operate farm equipment as soon as his feet could reach the peddles of equipment and became an integral part of the family farm. He was also an independent trucker and owner and operator working through WTB Trucking. Earlier, he worked for locally owned Palace Meats hauling livestock in to Fresno and dressed meats to the Bay area. The last 10 years, he became fascinated with bee keeping and learned all he could from printed material on the Internet, veteran beekeeper and his own experience. He and Sheri turned a hobby into a viable business complimenting their farming.
Randy is survived by his wife Sheri; his sons, Jeff and Shane Mehling; his brother, Mike Mehling and his wife Tanya; nephews, Grant and Carson; sister-in-law, Carol Kerkorian and her husband Don; His life long friend, David Jessen and his wife Gretchen; and his constant companions and comic relief, Boston terriers, Ricky and Lucy.
Also surviving are many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, loving aunts and uncles and many many cousins.
To know Randy was to love him. He was kind and caring, polite, shy, a subtle sense of humor, faithful, and huge heart. He leaves a big empty spot in our lives.
