Mary Margaret Smith

Mary Smith passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 16, 2011. A beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt, she was a longtime career woman who began working at the age of 12. She was well known in downtown Fresno and spent more than 40 years as a credit manager for Edmond's Jewelers and Zales.

Mary was born in Mapimi, Durango, Mexico but lived in the U.S. for the past 90 years.

She is preceded in death by her husband John L. Smith; her grandson John S. Jeffers; her longtime companion, Dan Eymann; and her sister and brother-in-law Tillie and Teofilo Rodriguez.

Mary is survived by her daughter Jacqueline Smith Jeffers of Fresno; and her son and daughter-in-law Leonard and Gloria Smith of Sacramento. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Robert Jeffers, Michelle Jeffers, Christine McKenzie, Melissa Smith, and Django Ramirez; and six great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns and Blair Funeral Home Monday, June 20, 2011 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. followed by Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at St. Peter's Cemetery.
