Mark Alan Pearson

Mark was born in Bastrop, Louisiana on March 18, 1959 and died May 8, 2024 in Clovis California at the age of 65. He is the younger son of Bobby James Pearson and Nell Black Pearson who have preceded him in death. Mark attended Brown Middle School and Turlock High School in Turlock California, and University High School in Irvine, California. A member of the class of 1977, he received his General Education Diploma (GED) in 1979.

At a young age Mark and the family moved from Mississippi to the west coast. He missed the strong bonds of Mississippi family. He moved back for a while as an adult, and even spent a few weeks one summer working on a tugboat on the Mississippi river, but eventually returned to California to be near his parents. Steady work was hard to come by for Mark and he spent several years as a truck driver for various employers.

Enjoying the outdoors, Mark often talked of his adventures in the Sierra Nevada mountains as a young man with his dog, Kino. As an older man his desire was to return to the mountains to camp and fish.

Life was very challenging for Mark. He was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder, paranoia, and mild schizophrenia as a teenager. As he grew older the anxiety and paranoia increased and he was unable to work, becoming reclusive and minimizing contact with people.

Even so, he could see through the confusion, fear and anxieties to find reconciliation with God through Jesus Christ his savior and redeemer. Mark was a student of the Holy Bible. His desire to hear, know and trust God’s word made him a fan of teachers and preachers faithful to that Word. But like Jacob, Mark often wrestled with God. Why would he not be healed? Was his salvation true? Does God really love me? He often said “the Lord is working on me again”, which meant the wrestling match was on. Yet Mark continued to proclaim Jesus as his savior and the Son of the living God. His hope now realized in heaven, healed in the arms of Jesus.

Mark is survived by his older brother James Stephen (Steve) Pearson, Sister-in-law Jana Pearson, nieces Drew Torosian and Leah Hogue, nephews Micah Hogue and Jordan Hogue, as well as three grand-nieces, Kendall Torosian, Paige Torosian, Jubilee Hogue, and one grand-nephew Rowan Hogue.

He will be laid to rest next to his parents at a graveside memorial Friday, May 31 at 2:30p at Turlock Memorial Park in Turlock California. The family is so thankful for the condolences, prayers, and encouragement received from so many during this time. Your thoughtfulness has blessed us. Thank you.
