Maria Funaro Peluso

Maria married Carmine Peluso and immigrated to the United States in 1960. They opened a fruit stand which Maria operated on her own during the week and with Carmine during evenings and weekends. In 1974 Carmine and Maria converted their fruit stand into a full grocery store named Peluso's Grocery. They kept the store running for over two decades. They, along with their sons Guiseppe and Francesco, worked hard seven days a week from early mornings through late evenings. Maria always enjoyed working and interacting with their customer. Shortly after retiring from the family business, she then began to work yet again at her sons' local cafe.

Maria enjoyed gardening, crocheting, reading her bible, and most of all she enjoyed preparing many wonderfully delicious Italian meals. Over the years many customers, friends and relatives appreciated all of her helpful gardening and cooking tips.

Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Carmine Peluso; brother, Andrea Funaro: and sister Christina Funaro of Italia.

Maria is survived by her sisters, Anna Funaro and Alessandra Funaro of Italia; sons, Guiseppe and his wife Doris and Francesco of Fresno, CA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Italia.

Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church on Monday, November 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
