Sr. Margaret Clare Leahy, CSN

Sister Margaret Clare Leahy was born Margaret Mary Leahy (Maura) on April 2, 1922, to Jack and Julia Leahy, in Cobh, County Cork, Ireland. She was the first daughter of ten children: Johnny, Tommy, Paddy, Tim, Maura, Teresa, Danny, Betty, Pauline and Frank. Maura is survived by her youngest sister, Sister Pauline Leahy, a Sister of St. Joseph of Cluny, and will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by many, many nieces and nephews, life-long neighbors and friends and her religious family, the Sisters of Nazareth.

Sister was 99 years old and a Sisters of Nazareth for more than 76 years. Sister came to America and Fresno in 1952 and was a founding member of Nazareth House, Fresno and a pioneer in the American Region. During her lifetime she cared for many with love and compassion in Glasgow, Derry, Fresno, Los Angeles and San Diego.

Sisters’ Celebration of Life is scheduled for Sunday June 27th at Nazareth House, Fresno. On Monday, Sister will be buried at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, in San Rafael, California with her youngest brother, Frank and alongside the Sisters of Nazareth who have gone before her.

We will miss her so much but rejoice in her entry into eternity. May she rest in peace in the arms of our loving Savior.
