Lillian Mary Kent, 91, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, March 24, 2014. She is survived by her two beloved sons Gale and Robert and her daughter-in-law JoAnn. Her eight dear grandchildren Gerry, Julie, Leanne, Chelsea, Stacey, Shawn , Gregory, and Robert Phillip, along with her five great-grandchildren Daniel, Madelaine, Destiny, Gerod, and Chloe. We were all blessed to have her spirit sprinkled in their lives.
Lillian was born, on October 31, 1922, to Thomas and Tracy Gravino, in Fresno, California. Before she married, she packed fruit, then worked for the Fig Newton Factory, and was a teller for the Bank of America.
She married Phillip Kent, November 5, 1945. They shared 34 years together and raised their two boys, before his passing in 1980. After she was married, she was a homemaker, and then worked for 25 years at Holland Elementary School making many fond memories and forming friendships along the way.
As a homemaker, she took care of her husband and sons, by cooking, cleaning, keeping up the yard, sewing, and ironing nearly everything. She also took care of her mother for many years. She often put the needs of others before herself.
Lillian gave of herself in many ways. She shared her love through her cooking and creativity. There was always room for one more at her table. Anyone was welcome - there was no need to call ahead. Her delicious dishes will be remembered by those that had a taste. Through the years, she was regularly a part of family events, even later when her home was not the hub.
Her imagination and resourcefulness was evident in her many craft creations over the years. Lillian had the ability to take every day items and turn them into works of art. Many of these items became gifts that are treasured in our memories.
She had a special love for animals, dogs and a pig in particular. She doted on her own and those animals in our family. Lillian was always ready with special treats for animals and humans alike.
She was both a staple and a spice. She told it like it is, and yet was always a listening ear, who could keep a secret. She was not afraid to let her opinions be known and at times was quite direct. Lillian was strong-willed. She gave orders and encouragement, advice, and love.
She held many roles in her lifetime, a daughter, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, caretaker, and friend. Lillian was a very special woman. She was a woman who made an impression on the lives of those who had the privilege of crossing her path. She will be greatly missed, and the memories of treasured times together will sustain us.
Finally, the Kent Family would like to thank all our family and friends for their love, support, and prayers. We are also thankful to the caring staff and residents at the Kingsburg Care Center for their kindness to Lillian.
Any remembrances should be sent to Kingsburg Care Center, Activities Department, at 1101 Stroud Avenue, Kingsburg, California 93631.
