Kent Richard Millar was born on August 8, 1943, to Orwin Kent and Naomi Mercedes Millar in Oakland, CA. He was the first born of five. He passed in his sleep after a brief illness on November 30, 2016.
Kent attended Fresno High School and graduated from McLane High School in the first graduating class. He graduated from Fresno State College with a Bach- elor of Arts degree in Social Studies and History, and a teaching credential. Kent taught fourth through sixth grade at Spring Valley Elementary School in O'Neals, CA, for six years. From there he worked as a tour guide for Globus specializing in National Parks and Hawaii. He finished his career at Sunnyside Pools, designing and selling pools. He was a member of the Guild of Twilight Haven and a board member at Brandon Knolls.
Kent was an avid outdoorsman and a true renaissance man. He loved the mountains and made his home there until he moved to Fresno, CA, to care for his mother until her death in 2014.
Kent was very athletic. He won the Iron Man award in high school, played tennis competitively as a member at Sierra Sport & Racquet Club, and jet skied and snow mobiled avidly. Kent was an excellent cook, never used recipes and often asked to cook at parties. Kent never met a stranger and was a friend to all.
He is survived by his brother, Jeff Millar and his wife Mari; sister, Peggy Adams; nieces and nephews, Juli Abell, Jeffry Millar, Chad and Blakely Goldberg; and five grandnieces and grandnephews.
A Memorial Service and reception will be held at New Hope Community Church, 4620 E. Nees Avenue, Clovis, CA, on Saturday, January 7, at 12:30 p.m.
