Karen Lyn Burchfiel

Karen Lyn (Jury) Burchfiel, affectionately known as Goose or Bark, gracefully departed this world on October 7, 2023, in Fresno, CA. Karen was born on August 26, 1960 to Richard Jury and Susanne (Jury) Foster in Fresno, CA. Karen and her younger brother Rick lived with their parents in the Central Valley, traveling around the area for their father’s work with PG&E, then later relocated to San Jose. While in San Jose, Karen made many friends, including a young man named Craig Burchfiel. She moved back to Fresno as a teen and finished her schooling at Bullard High School. Shortly after graduating, it was back to San Jose again, where she reconnected with Craig. They ended up getting married and having three sons; Brandon, Richard and Nicholas. Karen relocated a few more times between Fresno, San Jose and Ventura, before finally settling in Fresno again, because home is where family is.

Karen worked as an Executive Assistant for various companies while raising her boys; she was always a hard worker and worked tirelessly to provide for her family. Some of her boy’s favorite memories are of mom’s cooking, laughing at the little things and making the best of hard times. Karen was funny and witty with a huge personality and could light up a room by simply saying “HI!” in that way she did. Her personality shown in her love for art and all things beautiful, the more sparkles the better. She painted murals for her grandchildren in their rooms and had many craft projects going all the time. Cooking was art to her as well; she loved creating things that she could share with her family as an expression of love. She pioneered having family over every Sunday and coined it as “Sunday Funday”, which her family will continue to have in her honor.

Family was so important to Karen, and that is reflected in the love her family has for her. Karen is survived by her mother Susanne Foster of Fresno, CA; children Brandon Burchfiel (Nicole) of Fresno, CA; Richard Burchfiel (Nancy) of Clovis, CA and Nicholas Burchfiel (Desiree) of Fresno, CA; along with six grandchildren, her aunts and cousins.
