February 14, 2013, at the age of 93.
He was born on August 27, 1919 to Tiburcio and Herlinda Garcia in Fresno, CA,
the second of three children.
He attended St. Alphonsus Catholic School and Edison High School but, due to the depression, he left school before graduation to work in the fields picking fruit with his family. He married Betty Aguilera in 1941 and had five children.
During World War II, he worked at the Kaiser Ship Yards in Oakland, CA. After the war, he worked at Roma Winery before starting his professional career in 1950 at the U.S. Post Office where he retired after 34 years in 1984. For 10 years in the 1960’s and early 1970’s, he held a second job with the Yellow Cab Company. After retiring, Dad led a quiet life enjoying his family in Fresno and Hawaii.Dad died peacefully in the home he bought in 1948 surrounded by his children. He is predeceased by his parents, wife Betty, sister Agnes Esqueda and brother-in-law Jack and sister Mary Romero.He leaves behind to mourn his loss his children, Linda Frutoz-Gill and her husband Larry, of Honolulu, HI, Robert Garcia and his wife Jacque, Nancy Kaiser and her husband Richard, Mark Garcia and his wife Madae, Tony Garcia and his friend Ginny all of Fresno. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. Special thanks to Rufi Alday with Best Care Home Health, who helped with physical therapy, Debbie, Shelli and Elvira, with St Agnes Hospice and Sandra with Right At Home for their help in caring for our father in his final months and on the day of his death.
