Jose Luis Vera Mendez, age 58, of Fresno, California passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023. He was born in Cordoba-Veracruz , Mexico to Enedina and Francisco Mendez on July 12, 1965. Jose was second oldest of 9 sibling. Jose hometown was San Francisco Tlapancingo a small town in Oaxaca , Mexico called where he spent his adolescent. As a young man Jose was his father right hand man. He helped his father keep up with his ranch where he would take care of kettle crop and much more. At the young age of 15 is when he first left Mexico to work in the states as a farm worker. He would continue going back and forth for years. In the year of 1986 Jose meet his wife Carmen and settled down. They had a beautiful family of 7. Jose continued to work as a farm worker until he learned the trade of construction. He started as a labor and worked his way up to a formen. He was a cement mason for over 30 years in Fresno. Jose was a hard working and pure hatred man. He was a man of god who held his faith high . He would give all he could and help anyone he could. He lived for his love ones. He loved the simple things in life, such as waking up in the morning to have his cup of coffee and bread. He loved the outdoors he always said it reminds him of his youth. He was a San Francisco forty-niners football fan and a Club America soccer fan. He loved to represent his flag and country. He enjoyed singing música románticas and ranchers. Jose loved his grandkids, there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for them. They would call he would be there. In December of 2022 Jose was diagnosed with stage four stomach Cancer. In the months fighting cancer Jose never gave up. He always kept faith. He spent his last months with the ones he loved most. On the morning of September 25th at 10:17 am Jose was called home with the lord.
Jose Luis is survived by his wife, Carmen Diaz-Mendez; his daughters Annie Villalvazo and Adriana Mendez ,his sons Jose Luis F. Mendez Jr , Rene Mendez and Antonio Hernandez-Mendez. His mother Enedina Mendez his 6 Sisters and 2 brothers. He also leaves seven grandchildren to cherish his memory.
Jose Luis was preceded in death by his son Antonio Hernandez and his Father Francisco Mendez, and his In-Laws Primotivo Diaz and Annie Diaz.
Visitation will be held at Residence, 4967 N. Lola Ave, Fresno, CA 93722 on Thursday, October 19, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral Mass will occur Friday, October 20, 2023 at 10:00 am, St. Mary Queen of Apostles, 4636 W. Dakota Ave, Fresno, CA 93722. Interment St. Peter's Cemetery, 264 N. Blythe Ave., Fresno, CA 93706.
