It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jose Renteria De La O, 88 years old, on November 11,2024, at Hinds Hospice. Jose was a beloved father, husband, friend, known for his love of family, kind-heartedness, passion for music and animals.
Jose Renteria De La O was born on August 25, 1936, in Jalisco, Mexico to Ciriaco De La O and Gregoria Renteria. He spent his early years in Jalisco, Mexico where he grew up, went to school and worked as a roofer, butcher, fisherman and professional soccer player. In the early 70’s, Jose had come to work as a field worker. He went on to pursue a career in agricultural business, beginning by working with Joe Dalena where he worked in farm management. He also worked for RC Cola as a forklift operator. In 1980, he went on to work as a heavy equipment operator with Agristruction and land development. He gave 21 years of service before he retired in 2001.
In 1973, he married Frances and together they had two children Jose Jr. and Margarita. Jose was a loving husband, father, and grandparent. He cherished spending time with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed for his sense of humor, kind spirit, his parental guidance and dedication to his family.
Jose was also passionate about gardening, cooking, and family gatherings. He was an active member of the Catholic Church.
Jose is preceded in death by his father Ciriaco, his mother Gregoria, his siblings Francisco, Maria, Guadalupe, Silvina, Fidel and Esperanza. He is survived by his wife Frances, son Jose Jr., daughter-in-law Juanita and their family, daughter Margarita and son-in-law Jason, grandson’s Matthew, Jason Jr., Joey, Nephew Reyes and Maria and their family, and his animals Lulu, Tilly, Pretty Baby, Baby, Sr. Gato, and Meow-Meows. Plus, many others who were touched by his kindness and love.
A Viewing/Rosary will be held on November 25, 2024. The viewing will be from 4:30pm-6:30pm and the Rosary will begin at 6:30pm at Whitehurst Sullivan Burns & Blair Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on November 26, 2024, at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Victory Church. Following the Service the burial will be at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery at 11:30 am.
The family would like to thank Kaiser Permanente Hospital and Hinds Hospice for their compassionate care during his final days. The family also extends a warm thank you for everyone's prayers, kind words, love and support.
Jose will be remembered fondly and always in the hearts of those who loved him.
