Growing up the Galindo family would spend the summers at Dinkey Creek because his father worked for the saw mill. His mother was a homemaker to her eight children. The family holds many found memories of the early days in the mountains. John’s passion during his school years was soccer. He also played soccer for a travel team that made it to a tournament in Canada. John graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1982 and attended Fresno City College for two years. John started working part time as a bus boy at the Peppermill Restaurant at the age of 14 using his older brother’s ID. He continued working there full time and eventually worked himself up to prep cook and then chef. He worked for Fresno State Food Services for over 10 years and then was hired as the Fresno Unified School District Food Services Manager. He was highly respected and loved by his staff at Tehepite Junior High where he had his office.
It was at Tehepite that John would find and rescue dogs that were wondering around the school and neighborhood. He either found homes for them or took them home to care for them himself. John also had an open and loving heart for the students at the school. He was a compassionate and generous humanitarian that loved his family, friends, and staff. Those who needed extra help or support found it in John. His joy came from giving and that joy was evident in his big smile.
John is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Adrienne Galindo, his daughter Jacqueline Galindo, and son Jonathan Galindo, all of Fresno. Siblings that survive him are Luis Galindo, Lupe Galindo Sanchez, Sarah Omata, Benny Galindo, Manuel Galindo, and Anthony Galindo all from the Fresno/Clovis area. John was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jesse Galindo.
