James was the youngest of four boys. He graduated from Edison High School in 1947. In 1950, he married Palmarie, his wife of 67 years. James served in the United States Army in the Korean Conflict. He was a bookbinder by trade and a co-owner of the Hume Printing Co.

James is survived by his wife Palmarie; his daughters, Joanne Lauria, and Jane Shook; and son-in-law, Bob Shook.
A Recitation of the Holy Rosary and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at 10:00 a.m.
