Herman was born on October 24, 1927. He was carried into heaven by the angels on Saturday, December 14, 2013. Herman retired from the post office after 30 years as a postal clerk. He served in the United States Army 1st Cavalry as a lineman in Korea in 1951-1952 and was honorably discharged as a Corporal. He was an All American athlete at Edison High School graduating in 1947 excelling in basketball, baseball and football. He played for the College of the Sequoias basketball team in 1948-1949. Herman was a lifetime fan of the San Francisco Giants and 49ers. After high school Herman played fast pitch softball in a city league for ten years and later became an avid golfer.
Herman is preceded in death by Mary G. Romero, his wife of 61 years.
He is survived by his daughters, Ann Romero Lynn and her husband Richard and Katherine Arieas; sons, Manuel Romero and his wife Marian, and Stephen Romero and his wife Linda; grandchildren, Phillip Romero, Monica Romero, Rebecca Woods, Joey Arieas, Gabriel Arieas; great grandchildren, Miranda Romero, Trinity Romero, Philip Romero Jr. Herman is also survived by his sister, Alice Jaurique; brother, Joe Romero; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns and Blair Funeral Home on Thursday, December 26, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church on Friday, December 27, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in Fresno California.
