Native Fresnan Herman Horn passed away peacefully in his beautiful home on February 17, 2021. Herman will best be remembered for his sense of humor and his kind, giving heart.
For Herman, every situation was an opportunity for laughter. His quick wit and humorous banter was enjoyed by everyone who knew him. And his generous nature was appreciated by all. He was known for living life to the fullest.
He was born in West Fresno to Michael and Katie Horn, "Rooshin" Germans from Russia. The eleventh of twelve children, Herman graduated from Fresno High School. From a young age his true love was dancing. However his plans to study the art were thwarted when he enlisted in the Marines during WWII. His military career took him overseas to China. After returning safely he married Barbara Jeanette Scheidt, who passed away in 1995 after 45 years of marriage. The pair were great socializers. Their shared passions were international travel, art and antiques, playing bridge and their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He loved social clubs. In his younger years Herman belonged to the 20/30 Club and the Optimist Club, and he volunteered with the Pinedale Boys Club. He was also an active member of the Edison Social Club.
Herman spent his career with PG&E where he retired after 36 years as the Customer Service Department Manager. In retirement he worked part-time as a tour guide for Lewis Travel and taught line dancing at the Clovis Senior Center. Herman loved gardening, reading and working out at the gym.
Herman is survived by his daughter Stacy (San Francisco); son Randon (Missouri); and son Craig (Fresno) and his wife Cathy, their children Ryan, Evan, Megan, Steven and Nathan, and great-grandchildren Makayla, Kylie, Parker, Kynsley, Hudson and Malik.
Remembrances can be donated to Nancy Hinds Hospice.
