He attended School in New London and Strong Arkansas where he completed High School in 1943 prior to entering the US Navy where he served proudly in bomb-squad 85. He remained Stateside throughout his military service until his honorable discharge in May of 1946, upon which he was awarded a World War II Victory Medal.
Herman is survived by his wife of 56 years Betty Frisby, his four children, Kenneth Frisby, Larry Frisby, Susan Frisby Engelmann, and Cindy Cates Lee. Herman had nine grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
He spent several years as a cabinet maker at Fellas Planing Mill prior to purchasing and operating a Local Tavern beginning in 1965 through 1969. He then sought and gained employment with the State of California Division of Highways later transferring within the state back to his chosen career of carpentry and becoming a master Craftsman for the Diagnostics School for the Neurological Handicapped. He was then honored to receive the California Governor's recognition award for his unique skills towards major renovations and cost savings to the state.
Following his retirement in 1993, his greatest joys came from being a full-time fisherman and gardner as well as reading extensively on those two pastime passions. He also loved spending time with family especially those members of the youngest generation. He will be greatly missed by the many lives he has touched and inspired in his long life.
Services will be held at Stephens and Bean Funeral Chapel, 202 North Teilman Avenue on Thursday, February 15th at 10 a.m. with internment at Fowler Cemetery 8523 S. Fowler Ave. immediately following.
