Herbert Byron Hanson was born on September 13, 1919, in Todd County Minnesota.. He was the youngest of four children born to John Herman and Theodora (Thompson) Hanson. Herb passed into the loving arms of his Saviour on May 16, 2014 in Fresno CA. at the age of 94.
Herb grew up on his parent's farm and attended grade school in the village of Little Sauk and attended high school in Sauk Centre. He met Donna Mae Nelson, of Osakis, Minnesota while roller skating and six years later married and together planned on a life of farming. After a short time Herb attended business college in St. Cloud MN and worked for Little Sauk Creamery. Having opportunity to buy stock in Mutual Plywood in Eureka, CA, they left family and friends for a new adventure of working in a plywood mill. He often said those were the best years of his life. Two sons, Ted and Jeff were born in Eureka. When the mill sold, the family moved to Olympia WA. and Emmett Idaho, both for short periods of time and then they decided to move back to CA and settled in Whittier where he worked in the office of Davis Wire doing factory payroll for 22 years. He retired in 1984.
With each move, Herb found a church with sound Bible teaching and became active in various positions.
Six years ago they moved to Fresno to be near both sons. A year ago, due to failing health, Herb and Donna moved to Carrington Point (assisted living) where he was lovingly cared for. Just days before his death, he was in Clovis Hospital and then passed away at San Joaquin Gardens Skilled Nursing Facility.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Marion and Oliver and a sister Esther Dearden and their spouses.
Herb is survived by his wife, Donna, of nearly 67 years, his sons, Ted Hanson of Fresno and Jeffrey Hanson of Coarsegold; A nephew Joel Hanson of Whittier CA, and a niece, Sandi Paternoster of Camp Nelson CA. He had many cousins in Minnesota, Arizona and Canada. He also leaves behind, his wife's five loving brothers and a sister and their families..
The family is especially appreciative of Pastor George Posthumus and the staff at Riverpark Bible Church in Fresno.
Any donations in his memory can be sent to Riverpark Bible Church, 7500 N. Millbrook Ave. Fresno CA 93720 or to Inner City Ministries, (young teens who have little hope), % Fred Newkirk, PO Box 2627 Long Beach CA 90814.
