She is survived by her sister Janet Shizuko Hatano, nephew Stan Hatano, nieces Linda Hatano Flanagan, Janice Tomisaka, Diane Sanbongi, Donna Kawano and their families including many great-nephews and nieces and great-great nephews and nieces.
On October 11, 1953 Herky and Frank Urabe (deceased) were married and Herky greatly enjoyed being part of the Urabe family. She always looked forward to the special celebrations and family reunions with the Urabes, especially John and Arlene, the Kubo, Sian and Yamada families.
After working for the Department of Fish and Game for 37 years, Herky retired and she and Frank spent many years together on their almond farm until Frank's passing in 2005. Although Herky and her dog Molly moved into town leaving the farm behind, she truly loved all the years of farm life with Frank and their numerous dogs.
Her sister Janet was her traveling companion and together they saw a great deal of the world visting Japan, Korea, Europe and South America. Herky loved going on their cruises and the two sisters were as close as any two could be.
An active member of the United Japanese Christian Church for many years, Herky enjoyed the fellowship of dear friends and church members and volunteering in their many wonderful programs such as Friend's Care and home visitations.
Always so generous with her time, Herky spent more than 30 years volunteering at St. Agnes Hospital.
With her kind and caring nature, Herky will be remembered and greatly missed by her family and friends. She enriched our lives and we will all cherish her memory.
Visitation will be at Lisle Funeral Home from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm on Friday, January 16, 2015.
A graveside service will take place at Mountain View Cemetery on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 9:30 am, followed by a church service at United Japanese Christian Church at 11:00 am.
