She was born July 30, 1932, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Trent and Dollie Dotson. The family moved to California where she attended Roosevelt High School.
Freda married Buddy Speed and together they had three children, John, Tom, and Rosemary. She worked at the White Front stores and was a cashier at Kleins Restaurant. Freda was later an excellent Avon representative in Fresno.
For a short time, she moved to the Bay Area, and then back to Fresno. She also remarried, and with Leslie Kerbyson she had her third son, John L.
Rose remembers that Buddy and Freda loved to bowl at MidState Bowl in leagues, and bowling night meant pizza for the kids. They were members of the Sherriff's league on the Woodmen team.
With Les, they traveled to many states. He was a salesman for meat markets. Later in life, Freda's games were cards and dominos, or even solitaire. Wes Johnson was a welcome visitor for games of Rummy.
She was very fortunate to live with and receive home health care from Susan Hoagland. Freda's family was very appreciative of her loving care and attention.
Freda was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Lorraine Troup and Vera Barry, and her brother Don Dotson. She grieved the loss of all three sons, John, Tom, and John L.
Freda is survived by her daughter Rose and her husband Wes Johnson. She leaves 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren who she loved spending time with. Last Christmas, she shared the holiday with family and even shared pumpkin pie with Lady Bird Johnson, the dog.
Her easy laugh and kind smile will be missed.
