Florian Gaab was born in Fresno, CA, on October 26, 1918, to Bertha and John Suglian at the Burnett Sanitarium, which was renamed Fresno Community Hospital in 1945. She passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017, at the age of 98. Flo grew up in west Fresno on her father's Guernsey Cattle dairy ranch along with her six siblings who have preceded her in death. She graduated from St. John's Catholic High School which was located across the street from the historic St. John's Cathedral on Mariposa Street in downtown Fresno.
In 1941, Flo married the love of her life, Edward Gaab, and they raised four children. Flo and Ed were married 73 years, until his passing in 2014. Over the years, she was actively involved in community and service organizations alongside her husband and volunteered her time with the Boys and Girls Scouts organizations, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Nazareth House, and Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She and Ed were members of the Horseless Carriage Club, and, at any one time, they owned at least two antique automobiles and enjoyed restoring them and participating in a variety of activities with their fellow club members.
Our family would like to thank Mom's primary care physician, Dr. Dennis Nakata, and his staff; and the staff at San Joaquin Gardens and Dr. Kevin Nguyen for their care and kindness shown to our Mom and Grandmother. We also want to thank Sally and Don Cardell for being involved in Mom's life over the years.
Flo is survived by her sons, Dennis and his wife Donna, Gerald and his wife Barbara, and Thomas and his wife Maria; her daughter, Carol Hansen and her husband William; her cherished grandchildren, Kimberly, Scott and his wife Jennifer, and Kevin and his wife Rebecca; and three extraordinary great-grandchildren, Alexis, Braden, and Oliver.
Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.
