Eugene H "Sarge" Sargent was born on November 18, 1936 In Oklahoma City, OK. To Harris B Sargent and Vertue M Sargent. Gene stepped into the presents of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 8, 2021.
John 14:1-4
" Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; Believe also in me. In my fathers house there are many mansions. If it were not so I would have told you, because I go to prepare a place for you, and when it is ready, I will come again and take you to be with me, so that where I am, you may be also. and you know the way where I am going"

His family left Oklahoma in a 1928 Chevrolet Sedan, When Gene was 4 years old in 1940, with mattresses strapped on the top of their car, three children in the back seat with canvas water bags on the front of the car to travel through the desert to live in Fresno, California. Before arriving in Fresno, his dad found work in the government camps in and around Bakersfield, Arvin area. If you've ever read the story about the "Dustbow", Gene and is family lived it! His family worked hard to earn money to come to Fresno, Calif. to live. Living under concrete overpasses, then graduating to a 18X18 army tent at Dollars Camp in Calwa, Calif. Gene went to Calwa Elementary School, then attended Longfellow Jr. High School. Sarge helped his family make a living so he found a job at Valley Ice Company, as an Ice Puller, working everyday from 4:00 pm to midnight, while in the tenth grade at Roosevelt High School, graduating 1954.
Attending church at Calwa Baptist and The Billy Graham Crusade at Radcliffe Stadium, he sang in in the choir there and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior in 1959.
Gene went to work for Warner Company Jewelers in downtown Fresno, and had to buy two nice suits to wear to sell watches and jewelry to the public. After working there for about a year, he left to go work as a salesman for Federal Pipe and Supply for the next 17 years.
Harry Goorabian, who was the sol owner of Mid Valley Distributors. He heard about "Sarge" and made him an offer that he could not refuse! Sarge became Mid Valley's first salesman with territory from Merced to Bakersfield selling nuts and bolts. He retired after working for 45 years for Mid Valley Distributors.
Sarge lived in Easton for 40 years.
Sarge survived his wife of 20 years Jackie, and two children, Philip Sargent and his wife Jean of Palmer Alaska. Janet Cross and her husband Brian of Easton. 2 Grrandchildren, Kate Yagle and her husband Graydon and their son Rex, and Luke Sargent (grandson) who lives in Palmer Alaska.
